So those of you who weren’t alive in the 80’s aren’t going to have a clue what I’m talking about right now but I was just a wee lad and I can remember watching this show and geeking out on how cool the helicopter was. I don’t really remember anything about the show other than the helicopter, but here is a short video of the coolest helicopter ever with some nice 80’s synth work in the theme music.
Dancehall of course recognized how cool the helicopter was and immortalized it (in 2009 which was 4 or 5 years after it was cancelled) in a riddim that I still enjoy, on the Bassrunner label. That clicky sample of the helicopter from the beginning of the show sets the tone for some tasty buzzy synths that go hard and an arp that is reminiscent of the show’s theme. I’m partial to the ward 21 (what’s up with those voices?) and the Demarco cut is pretty tuff as well. That just leaves the Emiliano “Get Crazy” cut since there’s only 3 cuts on this riddim. Does it hold up after all these years? Let me know what you think in the comments.
